Micheline Dunstone
THE ARTIST:
When I accept a commission to paint a portrait in pastels I become TOTALLY absorbed and time becomes unimportant. As I am very aware these portraits often become important family portraits, and may well be passed on to following generations, I am very conscious of achieving a close likeness. I find it impossible and also inadequate to paint merely accurate representations of a person from a colour photograph, and the finished portrait is likely to incorporate vivid shades of colour to compliment the more literal elements of the picture. This can be seen in my gallery pictures.

I particularly enjoy teaching life drawing in class, seeing complete beginners find their feet, becoming ever more enthusiastic about their work and developing their skills. I believe the drawing of the human figure is an immensely important discipline for any artist and one that never fails to give pleasure to artist and viewer alike.
